    Piroxicam 20 mg capsules are prescription non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) used in dogs and cats to manage pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis, and to treat certain cancers such as transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the bladder. By inhibiting COX enzymes, piroxicam reduces prostaglandin production, alleviating discomfort. Administered orally under veterinary supervision, it offers an effective treatment option for enhancing your pet's quality of life.

    Piroxicam 20 mg capsules are utilized in veterinary medicine primarily for dogs and cats to treat pain and inflammation due to osteoarthritis and as an adjunctive therapy for certain cancers, including transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the bladder, prostate cancer, and squamous cell carcinoma. As a non-selective COX-1 and COX-2 inhibitor, piroxicam reduces the production of prostaglandins, thereby decreasing inflammation and providing pain relief.

    The typical dosage for dogs is 0.3 mg/kg administered orally once daily, though the exact regimen should be determined by a veterinarian based on the individual pet's needs and response to treatment. Piroxicam should be given with food to minimize gastrointestinal upset.

    Potential side effects include gastrointestinal ulceration, vomiting, diarrhea, kidney damage, and, less commonly, liver enzyme elevations. Regular monitoring through blood tests is recommended during prolonged use to detect any adverse effects early. Piroxicam should be used cautiously in pets with pre-existing kidney or liver conditions and is generally not recommended for cats due to their increased sensitivity to NSAIDs.
